June 20, 1935 - December 6, 2023

Sylvester Anthony Broerman,

Age 88, of Liberty Way, Fort Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes Wednesday afternoon, December 6, 2023, at the Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County facility in Troy, Ohio.  He was born June 20, 1935, in Burkettsville, Ohio, to the late Aloysius & Monica (Borgerding) Broerman.  On October 4, 1958, at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fort Recovery, Sylvester married Jovita (Stammen) Broerman who survives.  Also surviving are four of five children: Cynthia & Michael Mescher of Ansonia, Richard & Jackie Broerman of Wichita, KS, Mary Broerman (dec.), David & Tricia Broerman of Kingsport, TN and Stanley & Heidi Broerman of Landrum, SC; nine of ten grandchildren: Andrea Hodge, Amy & Josh Day and Derek & Kathryn Hodge, Gregory and Victor Broerman, Aaron and Kimberly (dec.) Honingford, Kyle & Lindsey and Marcus & Jenna Foster, Zachary, Samuel and Luke Broerman along with ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Frank Hodge; five brothers: Don & Dorothy, Maurice, Raymond & Dorothy, Lavern & Elizabeth and infant Jerald Broerman as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Sister Hedwig Mary Stammen, Bibiana & James DeWitt, Sylvia & James Serey, Fabiola & Rosco Doan, Gerald & Evelyn Stammen and infant Algar Stammen.

Mr. Broerman served in the US Air Force and Air Force Reserve following the Korean War.  In 1998, he retired from the Union City Body Company where he primarily worked in the paint department for 37 years.  Sylvester was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Fort Loramie American Legion and the Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles.  He also belonged to the Fort Loramie Athletic Boosters and was a Fort Loramie Football grounds crew volunteer.  Ves had also been a part-time grounds keeper for Arrowhead Golf Course, and years ago, retired as Fire Chief from the Fort Recovery Volunteer Fire Department.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Aaron Hess presiding.  Inurnment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to reconvene at St. Michael’s Hall for a time of lunch and fellowship.  Memorials may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County or charities of choice.  Private condolences may be expressed at gehretfuneralhome.com.
