Richard J. Hoying

March 19, 1952 - May 21, 2026

Richard “Dick” Joseph Hoying,

Age 74, of Eilerman Road in Minster, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his residence Thursday afternoon, May 21, 2026.  He was born March 19, 1952, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Frederick “Fritz” & Irma (Poeppelman) Hoying.  On October 12, 1973, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Richard married Linda (Aselage) Hoying who survives.  Also surviving are four children: Jennifer & David Ernst of Fort Loramie, Jill & Greg Thompson of Fort Loramie, Jeffrey & Amanda Hoying of Anna and Jana Hoying of Fort Loramie; five grandchildren: Taylor & Drew Wehrman, Katelyn Ernst & fiancé, Zach Pleiman, Julia Thompson, Kelly Thompson, Rachael & Caleb Bodenmiller as well as one great-grandchild on the way; two siblings, Donna & Jerry Winner of Minster and Dennis & Diane Hoying of Troy; brothers & sisters-in-law: Jerry Aselage of Russia, Joyce Subler & John Schmerge of Fort Loramie along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father & mother-in-law, Henry & Edna Aselage and one sister-in-law, Janice Aselage.

Mr. Hoying was a 1970 graduate of Fort Loramie High School.  After high school, Richard served four years in the US Airforce National Guard.  In 2022, he retired from Piqua Concrete where he primarily worked in sales and had been employed nearly 45 years.  Years ago, he was employed at Spring Creek Gravel in Houston where he had been a ready-mix truck driver.  Richard was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Lake Loramie Improvement Association, Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles and a 50-year member of the Fort Loramie American Legion.  Dick loved spending time with his wife and family, especially pontoon boating on Lake Loramie. He also enjoyed darting around on the golf cart and gambling excursions.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. John Tonkin and Deacon Paul Timmerman presiding.  Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.  Family and friends may call Tuesday, 2:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.  Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad, Fort Loramie American Legion or charities of choice.  Private condolences may be expressed at the www.gehretfuneralhome.com website.
