Patricia Ann (Balmert) Barlage,

Age 89, formerly of St. Rt. 47, Newport, passed away peacefully of natural causes Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney, Ohio, where she had been a resident for 4 years.  She was born September 9, 1934, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Edward & Nora (Straight) Balmert.  On September 26, 1959, in Covington, Ohio, Pat married Donald J. Barlage who preceded her in death on March 18, 1992.  Her family includes one daughter, the late Jane Meinerding & her surviving husband, Mark Meinerding of Fort Loramie; two grandsons, Mitchell & Anna Meinerding and Tyler & Laura Meinerding as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by ten siblings: Madonna Rinderly, Charles Balmert, James Balmert, Leola Knight, Elmer Balmert, Harold Balmert, Kate Bruns, Dorothy Bashore, Lou Powers, Sally Monnin and several sisters & brothers-in-law: Esther & Joe Schafer, Virgil & Mil Barlage, Edward & Jackie Barlage, Carl & Rita Barlage and Mary Ann & Ralph Sturwold.

Pat was a 1952 graduate of Covington High School.  She retired from Goodyear in St. Marys where she had been employed 25 years.  Pat was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish where she taught CCD for several years and had also been a funeral luncheon volunteer.  She also belonged to St. Ann’s Ladies Sodality, the Fort Loramie American Legion Auxiliary and the Minster Eagles Auxiliary.  Pat enjoyed watching Cincinnati Reds Baseball, baking cookies, an occasional casino visit and especially, following her grandsons’ activities.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Friday, April 5, 2024, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Newport with Rev. Aaron Hess presiding.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.  Family and friends may call Friday, 8:30 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.  Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad or Wilson Health Hospice.  Private condolences may be expressed at www.gehretfuneralhome.com.
