Louis A. Grieshop

August 21, 1930 - October 1, 2026

Louis Anthony Grieshop,

Age 96, formerly of Julian Road, Versailles, passed away peacefully of natural causes Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2026, at The Gardens of St. Henry in St. Henry, Ohio, where he had been a resident for two years.  He was born August 21, 1930, in Osgood, Ohio, to the late Frank Sr. & Rosa (Mueller) Grieshop.  On April 19, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McCartyville, Louie married Dorothy (Watercutter) Grieshop who preceded him in death on September 12, 1966.  On June 4, 1969, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, Louie married Mary Ann (Broering) Gehret Grieshop who preceded him in death on November 14, 2024.

Surviving of the Grieshop and Gehret unions are 15 of 18 children: Gene & Kathy Grieshop of Versailles, Jim Grieshop of Portland, IN, Larry & Ellen Grieshop of Versailles, Joyce Albers of Fort Recovery, Linda Osterloh-Dircksen & Ed Dircksen of Minster, Mike & Nancy Grieshop of Versailles, Patty & John Schulze of Fort Loramie, Lisa & Andy Paulus of Bradford, Susan & Tony Kramer of Osgood, Ann & LeRoy DeMange of Yorkshire, Tom Gehret of New Bremen, Jane & Steve Selhorst of North Star, Mike Gehret (dec.), Larry & Mary Lou Gehret of Sidney, Dennis Gehret (dec.), Bob (dec.) & Patty Gehret of Versailles, Carla & Roger Hartings of Maria Stein, and Ted & Kellie Gehret of Minster; 57 living of 59 grandchildren (Jason Grieshop and Hannah Gehret, both dec.) along with 120 great-grandchildren (with 2 grandchildren and a great-great grandson on the way) as well as 10 step grandchildren and 13 step great-grandchildren completing a circle of 201 living and deceased descendants.  Also surviving are 8 siblings: Betty Lange of St. Henry, Mary Ann & Carl Pohl of Maria Stein, Linus & Jane Grieshop of Minster, Bob & Judy Grieshop of Yorkshire, Jerry & Donna Grieshop of Yorkshire, Florence Wenning of Springboro, Jane & Nick Varney of Homer, AK and Nancy Grieshop of Kettering along with sisters & brothers-in-law: Jean Grieshop of Versailles, Connie Watercutter of Anna, Orville Watercutter of Fort Loramie, Paul & Karen Broering of St. Henry, Luke & Barbara Broering of St. Henry, Janice Broering of Coldwater, Robert & Betty Broering of St. Henry, Jean & Orville Borgert of Sidney, Walter & Shirley Broering of St. Henry, Dennis & Sharon Ontrop of Fort Recovery, Irene Gehret of Frenchtown, Dennis Heitkamp of New Bremen, Eva Gehret of Willowdell, Edward & Mary Lee Gehret of Willowdell, Madonna Gehret of Versailles and Mary Ann & John Kuether of Egypt along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Louie was preceded in death by two son-in-law’s, Ron Albers and Bernie Osterloh; three siblings: Albert Grieshop, Martha & Ed Schroeder and Frank Grieshop as well as several brothers & sisters-in-law: Fritz Lange, Robert Wenning, Vernon Watercutter, Jeanette Watercutter, Phyllis & Clem Poeppelman, Orville Magoto, John Meyer, Irene & George Speelman, Nancy Broering, Elmer & Barbara Broering, Don Broering, Esther Ontrop, Mildred & Virgil Bensman, Lawrence & Frances Gehret, Alfred & Rose Gehret, Paul & Bernice Gehret, Urban Gehret, Emma Rita Heitkamp, Joseph Gehret, Anthony Gehret and Cyril & Margie Gehret.

Louie attended the one-room, Patterson school-house through the 8th grade.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and had been stationed in Germany.  He was engaged in farming all of his working life.  After finishing school, Louie began working on the family farm alongside his Pop.  As he got older, he also worked at New Idea in Coldwater, the Osgood Filling Station, Fort Loramie Mills and sold Mason Shoes for local families.  He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and a past member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood.  He also belonged to the St. Denis Knights of Columbus and the Osgood American Legion.  Louie was faithfully dedicated to being a husband, Dad, and lifelong farmer.  He took pride in keeping detailed farm records.  His strong faith and work ethics are what carried him through raising his large family.  Louie enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, camping and vacations.  He could fix just about anything that needed fixed around the farm.  Later in life he enjoyed going to the Fall Festival with his brother to display his putt-putt engines.   Louie had a sweet tooth, enjoyed good food, and at the end of a visit would always say, “I’m glad you came – Come back again”.  He was known for his wisdom, sound advice and laughter.  In summary, Louie lived his life fully as a son, brother, husband, dad, co-worker, neighbor and friend of all.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at St. Denis Church in Versailles with Rev. Ned Brown presiding.  Interment will with full military honors will follow at St. Martin Cemetery in Osgood.  Family & Friends may call Tuesday, 2:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.  Memorials may be made to Osgood Area Rescue or Everheart Hospice.  Private condolences may be expressed at the www.gehretfuneralhome.com website.
