Leroy Carl Ahrns,
Age 68, of S. Main Street, Sidney (formerly of Fort Loramie), passed away peacefully of natural causes early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026, at the Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County facility in Troy, Ohio. He was born December 10, 1957, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Joseph & Mary (Keller) Ahrns. On July 19, 1980, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Egypt, Leroy married Phyllis (Grisez) Ahrns who survives. Also surviving are six children: Adam Ahrns of Versailles, Karl Ahrns of Willowdell, “Bud” Leroy Ahrns Jr. of Versailles, Mary Ahrns of Sidney, April & Nathan Zerkle of Piqua and Andy Ahrns of Sidney: 10 grandchildren: Lydia, Averi, Emery, Laney, Kyler, Isaac and Casey Ahrns, Avela, Ryden and Garen Osornio; three siblings: Leo Ahrns of Fort Loramie, Esther & Joseph Heitkamp of Fort Recovery and Vernon & Amy Ahrns of Fort Loramie; sisters & brothers-in-law: Denise Ahrns of Fort Loramie, Robert & Tracy Grisez of Magnolia, KY, Francis Grisez Jr. of New Madison, Martha Grisez of Gettysburg, Nicholas Grisez of Versailles and Susan Grisez of Fort Loramie along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Leon, Jerome and Louis Ahrns; sisters & brothers-in-law: Rita Ahrns, John, Michael, Thomas and infant David Grisez as well as father & mother-in-law, Francis & Barbara Grisez.
Mr. Ahrns was a 1977 graduate of Fort Loramie High School and had also studied Agri Business at the Upper Valley JVS in Piqua. In 2021, Leroy retired from Clopay Corp. of Troy and Russia where he had been employed 42 years. He was a life-long member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and frequently attended Holy Angels Catholic Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church and The Valley Church in Piqua. He was a member of Fort Loramie Knights of St. John #300 and the Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles #1391.
Leroy was a family-oriented man with many fond memories of Kings Island excursions in the big blue van. He also cared about all of the people in his life; considering them to be his treasures and part of his family. He was an honest yet funny guy. Leroy’s faith was deep and he loved going to different churches to visit with people and share the love of Jesus. He liked simple things like well water, lemonade, blue cheese and chicken gizzards. He especially enjoyed helping Karl out at Brucken’s, playing cards, The Sims game and handing out $2 bills for birthdays & Christmas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Friday, June 12, 2026, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Newport with Rev. John Tonkin and Deacon Paul Timmerman presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Family and friends may call Thursday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to Knights of St. John #300, Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County or charities of choice. Private condolences may be expressed at the www.gehretfuneralhome.com website.
