Janet Ellen (Staley) Busse,
Age 85, of Friemering Road, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes Tuesday evening, September 1, 2026, at Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, Ohio. She was born December 28, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Lowell & Pauline (Baker) Staley. On April 16, 1966, at Port Jefferson Church of Christ, Jan married Thomas Busse who preceded her in death on April 8, 2025. Surviving are two children, Michael & Rebecca Busse of Russia and Pauline “Polly” & Dennis Orcutt of Sidney; five grandchildren: Michael & Kimberly Busse, Allysia & Ashley Busse, Nicholas Orcutt, Daniel Orcutt and Miranda Orcutt along with six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles & Barbara Staley of Sidney and brothers & sisters-in-law: Michael A. & Paula Busse of Colorado and Susan & Jack Heyne of Saint Marys along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three infant brothers and one sister-in-law, Anne Busse.
Jan was a 1958 graduate of Fairlawn High School. She acquired a BS degree in elementary education from Wright State University in Dayton. Jan had been an elementary teacher for more than 30 years. Most of her career she taught for Anna Local Schools as well as at the former McCartyville Elementary School. She taught up to three generations within the same families while she was there, and was beloved by many of her students. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Sorority and a founding member of the Fort Loramie Historical Association. Jan enjoyed traveling the United States with her family, playing bingo and a good card game of 65. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie with Deacon Paul Timmerman presiding. Interment will follow at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson. Family and friends may call Tuesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home.
