Age 55, formerly of Fort Loramie, died at her home in Evanston, Illinois, on August 31, 2026. She was born October 5, 1970, in St. Marys, Ohio, to Nelson E. Barhorst and the late Ann M. (Poeppelman) Barhorst.

A 1988 graduate of Fort Loramie High School, Stacie went first to music — a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, then a master’s in opera from the University of Minnesota. She later earned her law degree at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa.

She spent 26 years as an attorney, most recently with Bassford Remele of Minneapolis. She was a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Fort Loramie American Legion Auxiliary.

Music was Stacie’s first love and it never left her. She was a lifelong reader as well, with a warm, welcoming way about her, and she made friends easily and across every walk of life. She loved animals, above all her cats and companions of many years, Loki and Gary.

She is survived by her father, Nelson Barhorst of Fort Loramie; her stepmother, Joyce Barhorst; her brother Brandon Barhorst of Alexandria, Virginia; her nephews Will and Mark Barhorst; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Barhorst and Poeppelman families.

A private memorial service will be held on September 26, 2026, at Gehret Funeral Home, followed by interment at St. Michael Cemetery in Fort Loramie.  Memorials in Stacie’s memory may be made to the Shelby County Humane Society, P O Box 203, Sidney, Ohio 45365.  Private condolences may be expressed at the www.gehretfuneralhome.com website.
