Marie Josephine (Schemmel) Eilerman,
Age 89, of Loy Road, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes late Sunday evening, April 12, 2026, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She was born September 6, 1936, in Minster, Ohio, to the late Mathias & Henrietta (Berning) Schemmel. On August 30, 1958, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, Marie married John A. Eilerman who preceded her in death on February 14, 2019. Surviving are 14 children: Dolores & Mike Droesch of Tipp City, Betty Larger of Fort Loramie, Ruth & Frank Dapore of Versailles, Louise & Walter Bulcher of Houston, Margaret & Jeff Kaiser of Minster, Caroline & John Ranly of Fort Loramie, Jane & Dean Brunswick of Osgood, Vickie Eilerman of Fort Loramie, Matt & Sharon Eilerman of Fort Loramie, John & Susan Eilerman of Fort Loramie, Andrew & Stephanie Eilerman of Fort Loramie, Rebecca & Scott Dwenger of Minster, Josie & Dave Crawford of Batavia and Jorgi & Tony Hoying of Anna; 42 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren; two siblings, John & Barbara Schemmel and Lynda Mullins, all of Minster; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Rosemary Schemmel of Pittsboro, NC, and Vernon Eilerman of Minster as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Joseph John Eilerman and one great-grandchild; two siblings, Ben and Carl Schemmel and several brothers & sisters-in-law: George Mullins, Vera Eilerman, Tony & Evelyn Eilerman, Adolph & Verona Eilerman, Louetta & Ray Pleiman, Teckla & Urban Bergman, Verona & Ben Schemmel, Albert & Marie Eilerman, Paul & Victoria Eilerman, Mary & Lawrence Kuether and Bertha & Harold Wenning.
Marie was a 1954 graduate of Minster High School. Later in life, she obtained LPN credentials from the Upper Valley JVS in Piqua. She was retired from Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster where she had been employed for 25 years. She had also been a dedicated homemaker and farm-wife. Mrs. Eilerman was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Ladies Sodality and the prayer blanket quilters. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, cooking and watching sports; especially the Reds and her family’s activities. Marie made sure no one would leave the house before sitting down to a nice meal. If she wanted something to be a mystery, she would just speak in Low German.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Newport with Rev. John Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Family and friends may call Friday 2:00 to 7:00 PM and Saturday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad, Alzheimer’s Association or charities of choice. Private condolences may be expressed at the gehretfuneralhome.com website.
